Nerf War Rules
PARTICIPATION
As the Commissioners we will remain impartial to all teams.
Also we do not care about your feelings, build a bridge and get over them. Save your tears of loss, disappointment, and utter failure for your pillow. This is war, it's not meant for children or people who act without the competency and comprehension of the average 10 year old.
*******Each round if you are being overly annoying we will give you a warning, if you continue to act like a 5 year old after the warning we can disqualify you because of it. Its the real world, we don't have to put up with your crap. ALSO being proven to have been LYING resulting in disqualification.
1. Signing up:
Signup closes on April 22nd at 2pm. You can check the twitter or contact
We will not be running a consolation bracket because it is one and done. THIS IS THE REAL WORLD PEOPLE THERE ARE NO SECOND CHANCES,
***only one person from another school is allowed per team the participant has to be in High School and if they do not go to an SPPS school, the school must reside within the metro area
2. Registration fee - each team must pay $25 (or $5 a person if you have less than 5 people) to Cassie or Lydia before the tournament starts on April 25th.
3. Teams of up to five are allowed. Complete teams are recommended.
4. By signing up for Nerf Wars, you agree to all the rules and to accept responsibility for any violations or illegal activity. The tournament organizers are not responsible for any decisions made by the participants, and do not support breaking the law at all. Players are expected to be informed of all the rules before beginning Nerf Wars. Failure to read this statement or any other rule does not exempt a participant from being held accountable for violations.
THE TOURNAMENT
*Any disqualification of a player means they are dead and the team will have to play a member down the rest of the game.
4. Prizes - all are cash and actual amounts will be posted once money is collected and we see how many teams participate. - The first place team gets the whole cash prize. Second place gets nothing (and all others places get nothing obvi) again THIS IS THE REAL WORLD we remember who won gold not silver. You lost that sucks you should have been better. Cash bonuses will be awarded for special achievements such as $5 for the individual with the most kills or $5 for the first kill this will be posted later on when sign up is finalized.
5. Tournament format - The tournament will be a single-elimination bracket.
There will be no 3 way matches this year we will assess teams by grade and skill assign rankings. teams will have a bi the first week if needed.
6. To win a match; the first way to win a match is to eliminate the other team. If you shoot someone on the other team (see combat rules), they are dead. If both teams are still alive at the end of the week, the team with the most surviving members wins. If your team does not have five members, this means that you need to make kills or you will lose by default. If the teams have an equal amount of surviving members, they must arrange a duel.
7. Each round will start as soon as it becomes Monday (so 12:00 AM Monday) and ends on Friday at 11:59. So basically everyday but sunday and saturday
***If you are going to be out of the metro area for more than 10 hours you are out. If you have some requirement or family thing an exception will be made but must contact a commissioner before hand to get it approved. If don't you will be dead
COMBAT
*I would not bring a nerf gun into a school- you cant shoot anyone so why do you need it in the building. Do what you want but if you are caught it will be confiscated and you'll probably be in trouble and get the tournament shut down or under pressure who knows what certain teacher or administration will do. DON'T BE THAT KID! Also if you are that kid and we somehow manage to still be able to have the tournament you will be DQ'd
******New rule: People in cars cannot kill or be killed unless the vehicle is in park (or of course not on). Not hiding out in you car makes the game more fun and this is a safety thing guys don't complain. (Kids in lakeville died this year guys be safe we aren't messing around with this, plus cars are expensive, we want to avoid crashes)
*****New rule: UNLOCKED cars, houses, open windows all fair game but very very risky on your part. If you go into someones house uninvited that is your choice but technically that is trespassing and we do not condone it in anyway. Be prepared for any legal action the family can take against you (so know who your messing with basically) also like I'd lock your doors people. And again we are not responsible for any illegal activity people partake in. If you are playing you acknowledge this and also the fact that there are risks of someone partaking in such activities. If you straight up break into someones house (or car) that was not unlocked you will be disqualified because the fact that you would do that is annoying and just not okay.
HONOR CODE PEOPLE
This is supposed to be fun!!!!!!!! don't lie, don't be an asshole. You might not be able to feel the dart (duh its foam). Deal with dying deal with losing its a game you should have either been better or not have played.
8. To kill someone, there must be a direct hit from an approved projectile or melée weapon (not a gun). It must be shot from a gun or if it is a sword the blade must hit them not the handle. Your clothing counts as a part of you. So does hair but only if it slows the dart down or has some effect on it (so basically, only if it's obvious). Backpacks, purses, shopping bags count as a part of you not shilds. IF YOU ARE HIT IN THE BACK PACK YOU ARE DEAD. Actual Shilds are specified in a later section but any dart that hits a shield or weapon does not count as a hit. Human shields can be used as long as they are not inactive players (dead or dueling). Deflected darts don't count.
9. Approved weapons:
Anything that is made to shoot a Nerf Dart or other Nerf ammo (discs, swords, ballistic balls and rockets). Off-brand darts of similar weight and size are allowed.
a) to clarify, modified and homemade weapons are allowed. Modify at your own risk. Modifying a Nerf product voids its warranty but can greatly improve accuracy and range (don't hurt people please)
10. Multiple ways to report a kill. You must include who shot who, when, and where.

11. Any disputes MUST BE TALKED OUT BY YOU GUYS FIRST. You need to tell them; you do NOT need to say the words "I killed you" but you do need to have both sides acknowledge it. If their is a dispute if someone is dead or not you must talk about it if someone leaves without trying to talk about it we will rule with the party that tried to talk about it.
i) If you still can't figure it out by talking about it contact me and lydia but you will proably end up having to duel. YOU CAN ARRANGE A DUEL ON YOUR OWN WITH OUT TALKING TO CASSIE OR LYD but let them know you are dueling. Dueling rules are below.
iii) If you refuse to duel once we tell you to, you are Disqualified.
12. Stealing or damaging weapons belonging to opponents is not allowed. If you shoot someone with a gun that belongs to their team, you are dead because you didn't know the rule.
i) You may steal enemy ammo but it must be returned after the round.
13. Stealing items and holding them hostage is illegal. If someone has dropped their stuff, you can guard it and pick it up as long as you don't remove it from the immediate area. If you are carrying something necessary to fulfill an obligation, don't drop it or have it with you during nerf duh.
14. Intentional physical contact between opponents is not allowed during combat. The only exception is that a player can run through someone attempting to block their way.
15. If you're completely naked (no clothes and accessories (shoes are okay so is jewelry)) you can't be killed. A naked person can be killed if the person who shot them is naked. If you see someone naked, please don't be a jerk about it. Also if anyone in nerf takes pictures or videos of someone who is using the naked rule they will be DQ'D if someone who is a friend of someone in nerf and was there helping that person and takes pics or vids that person will be DQ'D.
16. Grenades are not allowed. Like seriously, how does that even work?
17. If you catch a dart in your mouth, the person who shot it is dead. Hopefully this will be obvious to call, but if there is any dispute, no one is dead and the battle continues after all participants are ready.
***Shields can be made but the biggest size is 3ft by 4ft
BOUNDARIES
An easy rule for boundaries is that if something is off limits, if you're not sure about the exact spots that are allowed, just go by whether or not it is the property of whatever the safe zone is. Use common sense.
A picture for what qualifies for the Como safe zone is at the bottom.
18. The following areas are off limits:
-Como Park high school property at all times. We will count Como as ending at the sidewalk along Maryland (see below).
-Any other SPPS or metro area private school property is off limits one hour before school starts till one hour after it is done. PSEO college campuses (and other campuses) are fair game at any time but inside the buildings are not at all.
-School buses count as school property. This means you cannot shoot anyone on a bus from outside the bus, and you also cannot shoot out of the bus at someone on the outside.
- places where a team member is employed (only the person that works there is safe when there and only for 5 minutes before their shift and 5 minutes after).
-no matter where they are located school sports (ultimate counts) or activities are protected for the nerf participants involved in the activity. You will have a five minute grace period before scheduled event and 5 minutes after to get to your car or on the bus whatever. If you are at a place/event where you cannot be killed you cannot kill.
- religious, volunteering or club sports events have the same deal as above.
i) Sidewalks generally mark the boundary of an off-limits area and are not included in the off-limits area (like on the picture at the bottom).
ii) Anyone in an off-limits area cannot be shot from outside that area and they also cannot shoot anyone even if that person is outside the area. No killing if either person is in an off-limits area. This also applies to time limit situations.
iii) additional rules about school buses: 3 minutes waiting at stop before bus you are safe. If a school bus is at a stop with its lights flashing, the person waiting at the stop and intending to ride that bus is safe/ that marks that the bus is there. This rule doesn't take effect unless you are at the stop (within roughly 10 feet). This rule is intended to let people fulfill their legal obligation to be at school while still allowing significant time for them to be killed while they wait at a stop. This rule should be removed for next year.
20. Safe-zones:
No team safe zones this year. ITS THE REAL WORLD PEOPLE ITS DOG EAT DOG DEAL WITH IT.
DUELS AND DISPUTES
***Depending on how bad your dispute it which hopefully it won't be we may call the entire teams into a cease fire meaning no one can kill or be killed. If you and another person are in a dispute and need to stop and talk it out neither of you can kill or be killed if it is resolved whoever is not dead gets to leave the premises safely and can't shot until they have left. Also if the issue is not resolved obviously those individuals are in an individual cease fire until they or commissioners figure shit out and/or they complete a duel.
23. At any time in the tournament, you can choose to arrange a duel with the team you're facing. The easiest way to do this is to contact the team directly, if you dont know them ask the commissioners and we can give you their contact info.
24. A team-vs-team duel that is arranged for the purposes of a tie-breaker is literally the equivalent of finding a place and agreeing to meet there at a certain time. No special rules apply.
25. If there is a dispute about boundaries, kills being counted, etc.:
a) try to figure it out among yourselves. pretend you're mature (none of us are, don't worry) or something.
b) if you cannot figure it out, you may organize to a one-vs-one duel on the spot or for any time later during the round
- once both teams agree to the duel, neither participant can be killed until it is over. If other team members are present spectating or officiating, they cannot be killed en route to, during, or within ten minutes directly following the duel.
- you figure out the details of how you're going to duel
- the person that wins duel means the dispute gets ruled in their teams favor
- losing the duel does not mean you die, it only means that the other team is declared "right" about the dispute
LOGISTICS
Nerf Wars should not and will not be an excuse to do anything to others' property or safety that you wouldn't usually do. Use common sense and respect. That being said, the tournament will not take disciplinary action against a player solely for law breaking, leaving any punitive actions to be taken by legal authorities.
This Tournament is not in any way affiliated with or endorsed by Como Park Senior High School or SPPS. Any complaints should be directed to the Tournament Director and not to these organizations.
Tournament Directors and other participants cannot be held responsible for any of the actions of the participants. Any legal penalty or damages incurred due to actions taken for the purpose of the competition are the sole fault of the player responsible. By signing up, participants agree to this waiver.
